PSA: Local Bike Facilities

The City made a PSA about their new bicycle facilities. I recognize a few of the people in the video.

Cool, but I saw a few shots of drivers drifting into the bike lanes in the video.

Ummm...yes? I think we've established drivers of automobiles have great difficulty driving between lines...

another awesome video. what are the rules of riding single/double file in the bike lane? there's room to ride together, but is it legal? inquiring minds and all that . . .

What do you think of sharrows?

the_kernel - the law is clear - "Persons driving bicycles upon a roadway shall not drive abreast at any time except while in the process of passing."

No laws have been changed or updated in the making of these bicycle facilities. If that does happen - it will be a mess to get it right.

Any abreast riding you see in these videos is therefore, clearly, a passing manuever.

sans_auto - I like sharrows better than any of the other facilities. I think the placement demonstrates a much better roadway riding position and there's no line to give cyclists false security.

A most excellent video, great job again Brad, and Sam for wonderful narration! I saw the passing maneuver, it was a long one. :)
