So, I surmise from this that we should all eat the donuts and then ride the bike... Sounds great; beats using the car!

I think I know where you're going with this, and I like it. But are you sure you're comparing apples to apples?

Calories, with an upper case c, are the ones used to measure the amount of energy in food. One calorie, with a lower case c, is the amount of energy it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius.

So, I assume your meal is 1590 Calories, but is 2.5 gallons of gas 77,500 calories, or is it 77,500 Calories.

Sorry to be nit-picky, but I'm an engineer and I can't be helped.

I left one important detail out of my last comment.

One Calorie equals one thousand calories.

Now you can be sure you're comparing apples to apples.

If you want to know about "apples" you have to check out the beer and ice cream diet http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/6174/beer-icecream-diet-cold-calories.htm
The diet won't work because the calories contained in icecream and beer are actually Kilocalories (Calories with a big C). That means there are really 1000 times more calories in icecream and beer than this diet lets onto. They were correct about the amount of energy it takes to raise one gram of water 1 degree celcius that's one calorie with a little c.
