I Have A Problem

I have a shifting problem. Really, who didn't see it coming? I'll take a complete overhaul please.

It looks to me that when you want to downshift, do what you used to do to upshift; and, if you want to upshift, do what you used to do to downshift. It, the derailleur, is just upside down.

I'm sure you are still no Russell The Muscle.

Hey Michael, I will be replacing my rear derailler soon, but the one I have now still looks better than yours! Yikes, how many miles did you have on that one?

Oh, snap! So to speak.

Done that before on the bike trail. Bent the two big chainrings along with the derailer going into the spokes, went to get the SUV to haul the bike to the shop and got a rock chip in the windshield, while I was getting the SUV Kris dragged my bike to the park by the dog park and sat in dog poop smear in the grass. Was not a good day in our lives! Have to just laugh at it now!

It wasn't so much the miles on the derailleur but the previously mentioned deteriorating chain.

As a link began to come apart it caught in the pulley area and brought the whole mess up into the wheel.

The good news I had already identified the potential for catastrophic failure, abandoned my destination and was mostly home.

My bad for not maintaining enough - or winter riding too much.

One or two of the times I don't fill my automobile with gas will be going to a few new parts and general cleanup this week.

The bike will be all set to get me through February!

Nice work! Good thing you have a couple spares to ride like a good commuter.

A few spares but none with studded tires. It will be a bit slower going in the corners...

...hopefully there won't be a follow-up post regarding a broken wrist.

Just go frickin' single speed.
